The 50MW De Wildt Solar project, is part of Round 4 of the South African Government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), and one of four projects approved for the North West Province.
The solar plant, which connects to the close-by Eskom Zolograph switching substation, comprises 169 140 solar modules and stands on 185 hectares of agricultural land, close to the town of Brits. The solar field is positioned on portion 27, 28 and the remainder of portion 15 of the Farm Schietfontein within the Madibeng Local Municipality.
The solar project achieved commercial operation in January 2021, less than two years after construction commenced, in March 2019.
De Wildt Solar’s shareholders include African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM, a member of Old Mutual Alternative Investments) through its IDEAS Fund, Reatile Solar Power (RF) (Pty) Ltd, Phakwe Solar (RF) (Pty) Ltd, AREP (African Rainbow Energy and Power) and Cicada Community Trust.
