SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT EMPOWERS LOCAL STUDENT

For Didintle Mokgatlhe, the opportunity to pursue higher education is not only a personal goal but also a pathway to making a difference in his community. A resident of Mothotlung, in the Madibeng area, Didintle is currently in his second year at Tshwane University of Technology, where he is pursuing a Diploma in Building Science.

Supported by the De Wildt Solar Scholarship Programme, which he joined in January this year, Didintle has been given a platform to pursue his passion while staying closely connected to his community. His studies in Building Science position him within the built environment sector, a field closely linked to infrastructure development, safety, and long-term community sustainability.

“I would like to use my qualification to improve communities through infrastructure development and creating safer, more functional spaces for people,” he said.

Reflecting on his passion for the field, Didintle speaks about a journey driven by long-standing ambition and imagination.

“I chose this field of study because I feel like it chose me long before I formally entered it. It has been a dream of mine for many years to be involved in a field that allows ideas and imagination to become reality,” said Didintle. “I strongly believe in the power of imagination and vision. Most buildings that exist today started as simple ideas in someone’s mind before being transferred onto paper and eventually becoming structures that people use daily.”

The scholarship programme provides critical financial support to students residing in the Madibeng Local Municipality who would otherwise face barriers to accessing higher education, covering essential costs and allowing them to focus fully on their studies. Beyond financial assistance, it also offers ongoing mentoring and support to help students stay on track and succeed.

“This initiative is not only about access to education, but also about long-term community upliftment through skills development and the creation of future professionals who can contribute meaningfully to local development,” said Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager for De Wildt Solar.

Looking ahead, Didintle remains focused on making a significant impact in his field.

“I hope to build a career in the built environment sector and possibly start my own consultancy one day. I want to become someone who makes a meaningful contribution to projects, communities, and the industry.”
