De Wildt Solar, located in the fertile Madibeng Local Municipal area, of the North West Province, generates clean power from the region’s excellent solar energy resources.

With 169 140 solar modules harnessing the intense UV rays emitted from the sun, this 50MW solar project supplies South Africa with 130 000 MWh/year of much-needed green energy and benefits the local communities of the Madibeng Local Municipality area, through its many economic development programmes.

Solar Field

The 50MW De Wildt Solar project, is part of Round 4 of the South African Government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), and one of four projects approved for the North West Province.

The solar plant, which connects to the close-by Eskom Zolograph switching substation, comprises 169 140 solar modules and stands on 185 hectares of agricultural land, close to the town of Brits. The solar field is positioned on portion 27, 28 and the remainder of portion 15 of the Farm Schietfontein within the Madibeng Local Municipality.

Community

De Wildt Solar is focused on empowering and strengthening the local communities in and around the Madibeng Local Municipality area in the North West Province, namely Brits, Mmakau, Mothotlung, Lethlabile, Garankwa and surrounding areas within a 50km radius.

The aim is to empower and build capacity of targeted communities through the funding of various socio-economic development programmes that positively address local skills gaps and needs, and to empower the communities to be economically independent and take ownership of their future.
